The design and style of this product look almost the same as the Tesla's OEM roof rack. In fact, you can follow most steps in the Tesla's roof rack manual to install this product. A Model Y roof rack is $500 on Tesla website. This costs less than 1/2 of that. I'd say this is an excellent value!!!
Below are the key differences between this product and Tesla's OEM roof rack:
1. This product claims 200 lb max load. Whereas, the Tesla OEM roof rack is rated at 165 lb.
2. The fit and finish seems slightly better on Tesla roof rack.
3. Tesla roof rack can be locked with keys. Whereas, this product only has a simple protective lock that can be easily defeated with a screw driver. However, you'd need a real socket & wrentch to remove the hex nuts before this rack can be taken off. So, I'd say the security mechanism is about the same.
Installed 2/12/24. Install was super easy. I looked up a video on YouTube and had it one in 20 min. It's faster if you have a rachet, but overall it's fast and easy. There is some slight whistling. The best way I can explain it is to turn your ac on to setting 4 or 5 and that's how quite it sounds when on the streets. When on the freeway I couldn't hear it the music. Overall 5 out 5 for me.
