I’ll preface this by saying that I watched a TON of install vids before proceeding with this mod…
This is a high quality product that looks wonderful in the car. The item arrived well packed and in pristine condition. Has a quality OEM “feel” to it, although I do wish that the stitching at the top corners was a little bit softer…otherwise it’s perfect!
Installing took some time mainly because the first time you do this, you don’t really know what to “feel” for when taking the OEM airbag out. Make sure to watch all the vids and guides you can, and take your time when proceeding and I think you’ll be fine. The main idea to getting the airbag to pop out is to guide your tools that you use (screwdrivers, long Allen wrenches, etc.) to the front of the steering wheel cavity until you contact the retention clips. Once you see how the retention mechanism works, it all becomes clear, but your first time you’re flying blind and it can be a little frustrating. Just takes it slow and eventually it’ll pop out. After that, follow all of the vids and guides on how to get the wheel off and transfer all of the needed hardware to the new yoke. Also, in no uncertain terms, should you proceed with this without disabling the 12v and high voltage systems. Don’t out yourself in jeopardy by trying to skip this!
As far as the performance of this goes…it’s just wonderful. The heat might be just a “tad” less than the stock wheel, but it still does the job. It handles great and after you’ve had one drive with the yoke…you’ll pretty much get it all down on how to handle it. I really like the way it opens up the dash and allows for proper HUD usage, but an additional “win” is that it makes the upper left hand corner of the main screen actually usable again. This was ALWAYS blocked by the huge wheel previously and now speed readout and the side camera window is perfectly viewable and much more useful. It’s almost worth the effort just for this! Personally I think this mod fits well with the black aesthetic of the vehicle and helps to make your ride stand out from the blah of other Teslas on the road. If you’ve got even the slightest inkling of doing this…I’d say GO FOR IT! Lastly, this is HIGH VALUE for what this seller is offering. Why would you go anywhere else???
