"Tesla breaks through again: over $10 billion invested in Autopilot"

Tesla CEO Musk recently posted on social media platform X that Tesla's cumulative investment in the Autopilot program will be well over $10 billion this year, according to foreign media reports.
Musk said that Tesla's cumulative investment in training computing, data pipelines and video storage will exceed $10 billion this year. However, he also noted that even that number is dwarfed by the company's $250 billion investment in cars, but most Tesla cars should be self-driving in the future.

"Achieving universal autopilot is incredibly difficult, requiring all of the conditions described above and more. This year, (Tesla's) cumulative investment in training computation, massive data pipelines, and massive video storage will be well over $10 billion. But that's nothing compared to the $250 billion worth of cars on the road with Tesla-designed AI reasoning computers and trained by drivers." Musk wrote.

While the amount of investment Musk recently mentioned on X is very large, such an investment does seem worthwhile considering that Tesla has produced over 6 million cars to date. In addition, FSD has already generated some revenue, which is limited at the moment, but the potential is huge.

Tech giant Apple has reportedly spent $10 billion over the past decade trying to develop its own car, which is reportedly focused on autonomous driving. In short, one of the world's most valuable companies spent $10 billion, only to ultimately abandon the car-building project. In contrast, Tesla spent the same amount of money developing its Autopilot program, but it was undoubtedly more productive.
